What is a science and/or technology park?

A Science and/or Technology Park is a project, generally associated with a physical space.

What activities and functions does a Science and/or Technology Park perform?

1

Maintains formal and operational relationships with universities, research centers and other institutions of higher education.

2

It is designed to encourage the formation and growth of knowledge-based companies and other high value-added organizations belonging to the tertiary sector, normally resident in the Park itself.

3

It has a stable management body that promotes technology transfer and fosters innovation among the Park’s user companies and organizations.

Type of members

The APTE has the following typology of members and these are divided into: Partners, Affiliates, Collaborators and Honorary Partners.

Members will be those organizations that meet the minimum criteria established by the Executive Committee to distinguish science and technology parks from other industrial or real estate developments. For the establishment of these criteria, APTE’s definition of a park will be used.

The Affiliates shall be the organizations whose objectives, perfectly defined, are in agreement with the aims of the Association, while the development of their park is in the process of project or planning. This status is temporary and the maximum period of stay in this category of membership shall be three years, unless, due to exceptional circumstances, the Assembly decides to extend it for an additional period of up to a maximum of two years. Once the above terms have elapsed without becoming a Member, the Member may opt to become a collaborating member.

Collaborators will be those entities and persons, natural or juridical, public or private, that without having as their objective the creation of a park, demonstrate a special interest in the park’s scope.

Honorary Members may be those entities and persons, natural or juridical, public or private, national or foreign, who, due to their relevant merits and their collaboration with the purposes of the association, are designated by the General Assembly upon proposal of the Executive Committee.
